Start Spreading the Love – Target $1 Spot Challenge

target1spotheart
Valentines Day is coming up and it is one of my favorite holidays to decorate for!  That’s why every time I go into the Target $1 Spot this time of year I grab anything that is red or pink or has hearts!  A few weeks ago I was with my friends, The Creative Mom and The Potters Place at Target.  We found these adorable wooden hearts and we challenged each other to come up with a different way to transform them.  We decided we would call it “One Heart, 3 Ways”.  I decided to start spreading the love with my project! (I had “New York, New York” in my head!)

So here we are, in Target, holding up our plain, wooden hearts, and dressed in our black (coincidence!).  This is how our hearts looked before…

and here is how mine looks now.
I painted my heart light pink and then cut 2″ strips of newspaper to cover the front.  I mod-podged the newspaper on and let dry.  Next, I took some sandpaper and roughed up the edges a little bit and even sanded on top of the newspaper in some spots.  I then lightly brushed some stain onto a few parts of the heart and newspaper – I didn’t want to over-due it but thought that it would be fun to make it a little old-looking.  Maybe by next year or even two years away, my newspaper will naterally start to turn yellow and look old – which is what I want!  And because it is covered in newspaper, of course I had to add the saying, “Spread the love”!  I cut this out on glitter vinyl on my Cricut Explore.
You must check out how Staci from The Potters-Place and Natalie from The Creative Mom transformed their Target $1 Spot Hearts.  They are adorable!

If you liked this project then you are guaranteed to love this cute, heart-shaped wreath!

Hey, I'm Kami!

Welcome to the blog

Wife to my Jr. High sweetheart, mother to three daughters. I have always loved being social and staying connected with other people who have similar interests to me. I started a blog back in 2010 and have been in the social networking scene since then. I love meeting new people and helping them feel confident, and see their own beauty.
